The São Paulo State Prosecution Office of Accounts is responsible for promoting the defense of the legal system. As guardian of the law and supervisor of its application, it strives to ensure concrete government adherence to the constitutional principles of legality, impersonality, morality, publicity and efficiency, with regard to accounting, financial, budgetary, operational and property oversight for São Paulo State and its municipalities.

This authority’s competent jurisdiction includes enforcing measures in the interest of justice from the Administration and the Treasury. This is carried out before the São Paulo State Court of Accounts, a model institution for the rest of the country for over 90 years.

Among other attributions, the MPC/SP participates in court trials, manifests itself in external control proceedings, lodges appeals as stipulated by law, launches investigative procedures, requests documents, executes Agreements of Cooperation with the other control bodies and branches of the Prosecution Service, monitors judicial collection and seizure of assets from those responsible for defrauding the treasury, among other measures necessary to achieve its mission.

As such, the Prosecution Office of Accounts presents itself as an agency in defense of the society of São Paulo State by battling corruption and mismanagement of public resources.
